About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor and a registered accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). My core training was based on the person centred approach at a masters level at Keele University. I am a Cognitive Analytic Therapy therapist/ practitioner accredited by the Association of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT) since 2023. I am also an EMDR therapist and a member of the EMDR Association. My experience and professional development have led me to adopt a pluralistic take on my practice that also introduces elements from therapeutic theories such as existential psychotherapies, compassion focused therapy, psychoanalytic theory and cognitive/ behavioural practices. I have also been trained in delivering supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists and I have supervised individual counsellors and teams of practitioners at a mental health charity, in a families social care setting and in a women's refuge near Manchester, UK.
I have delivered counselling to clients in higher education, the National Health Service and in the community sector. My client caseload includes people from various ethnic, cultural and class backgrounds, the LGBTQ+ demographic, and all age groups above 16. I have supported people with a variety of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, post - traumatic stress, obsessive - compulsive disorders, eating difficulties, managed psychotic symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations. I have worked with adults (16+) of any age who have experienced loss (through death, relationship breakdown, loss of employment or other), men and women that have suffered historic abuse, loss of family unit, life crises, workplace difficulties and people experiencing suicidal thoughts and engaging in self-harm.
Practice description
I am particularly interested in working with people who have experienced developmental trauma and people who struggle in relationships and with forming helpful attachments with others. I welcome working with clients from any background including migrants and expats, which is a demographic that I occupy and is of particular academic interest to me. My clients will have the opportunity to be in a non-judgmental space with me where they will be able to explore their feelings, circumstances and experiences in confidence in order to reach a positive outcome. For those who find the immediacy of live contact challenging, or also for practical reasons, I offer text based counselling via chat or email message.
I am trained and have experience in delivering one-off, single session therapy and formulation sessions. I offer either a structured, time limited therapy arrangement or an open ended time frame, depending on what is required by my clients.
