Treatment: Η λαπαροσκόπηση επιτρέπει ασφαλείς και αποτελεσματικές επεμβάσεις σε πολλές χειρουργικές ειδικότητες. Στη γυναικολογία, η λαπαροσκόπηση χρησιμοποιείται για λόγους διαγνωστικούς αλλά και θεραπευτικούς σε παθήσεις όπως η ενδομητρίωση, οι κύστες ωοθηκών, η υπογονιμότητα, οι συμφύσεις, οι παθήσεις σαλπίγγων (π.χ. υδροσάλπιγγες), τα ινομυώματα, ο χρόνιος πόνος πυέλου, η εξωμήτριος κύηση κλπ. Απαιτείται γενική αναισθησία και χρειάζονται 2 - 4 τομές στη κοιλιά, αναλόγως με το αν πρόκειται για διαγνωστική ή επεμβατική εξέταση. Τα σημάδια που δημιουργούν οι μικρές τομές εξαφανίζονται σε μικρό χρονικό διάστημα καθώς το δέρμα συρράπτεται ενδοδερμικά. Τα πλεονεκτήματα της λαπαροσκόπησης έναντι των ανοιχτών επεμβάσεων είναι 1) ελάχιστη απώλεια αίματος, 2) ο ελάχιστος μετεγχειρητικός πόνος, 3) η σύντομη παραμονή στο νοσοκομείο, 4) ταχύτατη ανάρρωση και επάνοδος στην εργασία και 5) καλύτερο αισθητικό αποτέλεσμα.
