Dr. Ioannis Dimitriou, MD, PhD, is a General Surgeon, Certified Oncologic Surgeon, Proctologist, and Minimally Invasive Surgeon, maintaining a private practice in Marousi, Greece. He specializes in Robotic Surgery (Da Vinci X- & XI-System ©INTUITIVE) and holds a PhD from the Medical School of Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany. Dr. Dimitriou studied at the Medical School of Justus Liebig University in Giessen, where he also successfully completed his doctoral thesis. He specialized in General and Visceral Surgery at the University Hospital Klinikum Krefeld in Germany and subsequently at the University Hospital and Oncology Center Alfried Krupp Krankenhaus Essen. In 2010, he obtained his Surgery specialization, followed by the Visceral Surgery specialization in 2014. He further acquired subspecialties in Oncologic Surgery (2017) and Proctology (2019). In 2012, he was promoted to Senior Consultant (Oberarzt), and in 2018, he became Deputy Director (Stellvertretender Klinikleiter) of the Oncology Center at Alfried Krupp Krankenhaus Essen. In 2019, he assumed the role of Head of the Surgical Department at St. Barbara-Hospital Gladbeck and Sankt Marien-Hospital Buer in Germany—both Certified Oncology Centers (Augustinus Tumor Centrum – ATC) and Certified Hernia Centers (Hernienzentrum) under the German Hernia Society (DHG). In 2023, he was appointed Director of the Surgical Department at the University Hospital Marien-Hospital Marl, a Certified Colorectal Cancer Center (Darmkrebszentrum) accredited by the German Cancer Society (DKG), where he also served as Scientific Director. As a Director, he trained numerous physicians in obtaining specializations and subspecialties in General Surgery, Visceral Surgery, Oncologic Surgery, and Proctology, under authorization from the Medical Association of Westphalia-Lippe (ÄKWL).
Currently, Dr. Dimitriou serves as a Senior Consultant/Chefarzt in Oncologic and Robotic Surgery (Da Vinci X- & XI-System ©INTUITIVE) at St. Barbara-Hospital Gladbeck and Sankt Marien-Hospital Buer in Germany. Having gained extensive surgical experience and scientific expertise at some of the most prestigious German and European certified centers, he decided to return to Greece to offer his knowledge and skills to Greek patients. His clinic focuses on minimally invasive surgical techniques (Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery) and specialized Oncologic Surgery, with particular emphasis on colorectal (Colorectal Cancer) and pancreatic cancer (Pancreatic Cancer).
