Το σύνδρομο των κυκλικών εμέτων είναι πάθηση άγνωστης αιτιολογίας και συνήθως η θεραπεία δίνεται είτε από παθολόγο, είτε νευρολόγο είτε γαστρεντερολόγο. Η διάγνωση όμως του συνδρόμου και ο αποκλεισμός των άλλων αιτίων εμέτων είναι δουλειά γαστρεντερολόγου.

Για να μπει διάγνωση σε συμπτωματολογία εμέτων θα πρέπει καταρχάς να ελεγθεί τυχόν οργανική βλάβη από το πεπτικό με γαστροσκόπηση και - εάν απαιτείται - αξονική τομογραφία. Εάν δεν υπάρχει συγκεκριμένο εύρημα από αυτά ο έλεγχος στρέφεται και στο νευρικό σύστημα.
