Καλημέρα σας. Πολυ ωραία η ερώτηση σας. Η περίοδος λειτουργεί προστατευτικά για την καρδιά κυρίως λόγω της δράσης των οιστρογόνων, τα οποία έχουν θετική επίδραση στα αγγεία και το καρδιαγγειακό σύστημα. Τα οιστρογόνα βοηθούν στη διατήρηση της ελαστικότητας των αρτηριών, στη μείωση της "κακής" χοληστερόλης και στην αύξηση της "καλής", μειώνοντας έτσι τον κίνδυνο αθηροσκλήρωσης και εμφραγμάτων.
Μετά την εμμηνόπαυση, όταν τα επίπεδα των οιστρογόνων, δυστυχώς μειώνονται, ο κίνδυνος καρδιαγγειακών παθήσεων αυξάνεται, γι’ αυτό και οι γυναίκες εμφανίζουν συχνότερα τέτοια προβλήματα σε μεγαλύτερες ηλικίες.
