Θα πρέπει να υπάρχει παθολογία στην κυηση για να προβείτε σε διακοπή σε αυτόν τον μήνα. Συνήθως προηγείται επέμβαση παραπλήσια της αμνιοπαρακέντηση σ από εξειδικευμένο γιατρό για την διακοπή της καρδιακής λειτουργίας του εμβρύου και μετά πρόκληση τοκετού.

Αν έχει περάσει η 13η εβδομαδα κύησης τότε σύμφωνα με την ελληνική νομοθεσία δεν επιτρέπεται η διακοπή κύησης λόγο επιθυμίας της εγκύου.
