Παράλληλα, από το 1996 ως και το 2001, μετεκπαιδεύτηκε στη Συστημική Ψυχοθεραπεία Οικογένειας και Ομάδας στο Κέντρο Ψυχικής Υγιεινής Χανίων από τον κ. Αχιλλέα Προκοπίου, Παιδοψυχίατρο, Συστημικό Θεραπευτή και Επόπτη Ειδικών Ψυχικής Υγείας Κατά τη διάρκεια του μεταπτυχιακού της έκανε πρακτική άσκηση, για 2,5 χρόνια στο Ψυχιατρικό Νοσοκομείο της Σούδας και στο Κέντρο Ψυχικής Υγιεινής Χανίων. Στη συνέχεια, εργάστηκε με σύμβαση έργου στις Σχολές Γονέων του Δήμου Ρεθύμνου.

Το 2001 επέστρεψε στην Μυτιλήνη, όπου ξεκίνησε να εργάζεται στο Κέντρο Πρόληψης Πνοή, ως στέλεχος πρόληψης και από το 2007, ως επιστημονικά υπεύθυνη.  Από το Σεπτέμβριο του 2007 και για 12 χρόνια συμμετείχε σε ομάδα εποπτείας για ειδικούς ψυχικής υγείας, που λειτουργούσε στη Μυτιλήνη από τον κ. Κωστούλα Γεώργιο, Ψυχίατρο με Ψυχαναλυτική Κατεύθυνση.

Τα τελευταία χρόνια παρακολουθεί συχνά εκπαιδευτικά, εποπτικά και επιστημονικά σεμινάρια κατά κύριο λόγω Συστημικής Θεραπευτικής Προσέγγισης και Επιστημονικά Συνέδρια επάνω στο αντικείμενο της Κλινικής Ψυχολογίας και της Ψυχολογίας γενικότερα.

Το γενικότερο ενδιαφέρον της για τον χώρο της υγείας, τα υγειονομικά συστήματα και τα δικαιώματα των ανθρώπων σε σχέση με την υγειονομική πολιτική την οδήγησε να ξεκινήσει αντίστοιχο μεταπτυχιακό. Έτσι το 2024 ολοκλήρωσε το δεύτερο μεταπτυχιακό της στην Διοίκηση Μονάδων Υγείας του Ελληνικού Ανοικτού Πανεπιστημίου.

Η πτυχιακή της με τίτλο: «Ψυχική Ανθεκτικότητα και Ποιότητα Ζωής σε άτομα με Ινομυαλγία» συνδυάζει την ψυχολογία, τα ψυχολογικά αποθέματα και τις δυνάμεις, που μπορούν να αξιοποιηθούν από ασθενείς με το Σύνδρομο της ινομυαλγίας καθώς και την έννοια της Ποιότητας της Ζωής στην εξέλιξη της πορείας τους.  

Τέλος, η κ. Κιστάνη Σοφία αρθρογραφεί σε τοπικές εφημερίδες και μέσα μαζικής ενημέρωσης και έχει συμμετάσχει με ανακοινώσεις και ομιλίες σε πανελλήνια επιστημονικά συνέδρια.
